The Island Challenge

Please remember, boys may only bring what’s included on this packing list. Other than what he wears to camp, please leave EVERYTHING else at home.

  • Sleeping Bag or 2 Blankets
  • Twin-size fitted sheet
  • 1 pillow and pillowcase
  • 6 underwear (boxers or briefs)
  • 8 pairs of socks
  • Extra pair of sneakers (In addition to the sneakers he wears to camp. Sandals are not allowed on the Island.)
  • 2 swim suits
  • 2 towels
  • Toothbrush
  • Optional: Deodorant (NO SPRAYS: roll-on or stick only)
  • Raincoat or poncho
  • Any Medication or Inhalers (This should be handed to the check-in staff on arrival)
  • Any remaining paperwork (This should be handed to the check-in staff on arrival)

If you’re concerned that something seems to be missing from this list, please give us a call at the office (744-6131 or 1-800-564-6131). Remember, though, that Mayhew provides uniform tee-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts and sweatpants, as well as toothpaste, soap, sunscreen, bug spray, cabin flashlights, and everything else you might think your son’s going to need at camp!

Directions to Mayhew

To get to Bristol FROM POINTS NORTH (from Littleton, Plymouth, Ashland, etc):

  • Take Interstate 93 South to exit 23 (Bristol, Newfound Lake).
  • Turn right off the exit onto Route 104 West towards Bristol.
  • Follow Route 104 into downtown Bristol. Then see below for directions from Bristol.

To get to Bristol FROM POINTS SOUTH (Concord, Manchester, Keene)

  • Take Interstate 93 North to exit 23 (Bristol, Newfound Lake).
  • Turn left off the exit onto Route 104 West towards Bristol.
  • Follow Route 104 into downtown Bristol. Then see below for directions from Bristol.

To get to Bristol FROM POINTS WEST (Lebanon, Enfield, Canaan)

  • Take Route 4 East towards Danbury.
  • In Danbury, turn left onto Route 104 East towards Bristol.
  • In Bristol, turn left at the traffic light onto Rt 3A (Lake Street). Then see below for directions from Bristol.

To get to Bristol FROM THE SEACOAST (Portsmouth, Dover, Durham)

  • Take Route 4 West towards Concord and Interstate 93
  • Go north on Interstate 93
  • Take Interstate 93 North to exit 23 (Bristol, Newfound Lake).
  • Turn left off the exit onto Route 104 West towards Bristol.
  • Follow Route 104 into downtown Bristol. Then see below for directions from Bristol.

Once you’re in Bristol, TO GET TO MAYHEW

  • Follow the flow of traffic through Bristol onto Route 3A North (Lake Street) towards Newfound Lake.
  • About 2.5 miles from the center of Bristol, you’ll come to a blinking yellow light, marking West Shore Rd.
  • Take a left at that light onto West Shore Road (the lake will be on your right), and approximately 1.5 miles down the road you will come upon Shackett’s Store. Just past this store, 1/8th of a mile on your left is a tennis court and our dirt-lined parking area. Pull in here.

**If a Mayhew staff member is not there to greet you, look for the Mayhew “hot-line” phone, which is located in the small building at the tennis courts. You may call 744-8452 from this phone to reach Mayhew Island.
