At Mayhew, we're incredibly fortunate to have a community of passionate volunteers who believe in the power of giving back, and this fall shows it! From sprucing up Mayhew Island to keeping roads safe during the NH Marathon, we saw volunteers dive into hard work with dedication and enthusiasm. Let's take a look at some of the highlights!
Caring for Mayhew Island: A Team Effort
September kicked off with a burst of energy as a strong, committed group of volunteers gathered to lend their hands to several vital projects on Mayhew Island. Members of the Laconia Rotary, Bank of NH, and MVSB, along with Mayhew trustees, current participants, and local community members, rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
From staining the recently completed spaces within the Health Center to relocating debris and leftover materials from summer construction, this crew didn’t miss a beat. The Lodge floors were resurfaced, and rocks were carefully laid to protect our Island water line. It was a full day of hard work, but the smiles and camaraderie were contagious. Thanks to their efforts, our facilities are well-prepared for the months ahead!
Granite United Way Day of Caring: Lending a Hand on Mayhew Island
Later in September, we were excited to once again participate in Granite United Way’s Day of Caring. This event brought a wave of energy to the island as an enthusiastic team from 3M, including one of our own Mayhew alumni, joined forces with volunteers from NHEC and the local community. Together, they tackled a wide range of projects—from refinishing floors to buttoning up buildings for winter and everything in between!
The dedication and teamwork of this crew were truly inspiring, and their efforts made a lasting impact. Thanks to them, Mayhew Island is in top shape, ready weather the winter ahead and to welcome the boys for another season of growth and adventure next summer.
Supporting the NH Marathon
Race day is always exciting, and this year was no exception! We're incredibly grateful to our hard-working group of volunteers that helped Race Day go off without a hitch. A crew of 30 Mayhew friends, alumni, staff, and participants stepped up to ensure everything ran smoothly. From manning road safety posts—keeping runners on course and cheering them on—to keeping the finish line tent stocked with much-needed drinks and snacks, these volunteers were the backbone of the day.
Their energy and encouragement helped tired runners push through to the finish line, and their behind-the-scenes work kept the event running seamlessly. The NH Marathon wouldn’t have been the same without them!
